Phase III: Site Remediation Case Study

Site Remediation

Dry Cleaner Site

Orange County, California

M&A conducted Phase I and Phase II investigations at a dry-cleaner site in Orange County, California.  The dry-cleaning establishment was located within a large shopping center.

The results of the Phase II investigation indicated that the dry-cleaning solvent used (PCE) had contaminated the underlying soils in the area beneath the store and had spread into the subsurface beyond the establishment bounds.  The PCE had also penetrated through the soil zone and into the free groundwater table, then through a clay confining layer, and into the confined aquifer beneath.

The site was remediated by use of the following methods:

The Dual-Phase Vapor Extraction system was installed beneath the site and effectively removed the soil and groundwater contaminants.
